City Centre Aquatic Complex to Undergo Annual Maintenance

COQUITLAM, BC, July 20, 2016City Centre Aquatic Complex (1210 Pinetree Way) will be closed from Aug. 22 to Sept. 18, 2016 for annual maintenance needed to meet public safety standards and service expectations. 

The pool and café will be closed Aug. 22 and reopen on Sept.19, 2016. The fitness centre and front desk will be closed Aug. 22 and will reopen on Aug. 29, 2016. The Eagle Ridge Aquatic Centre Physiotherapy clinic will be open regular hours during the closure. 

The maintenance work will include:

  • Roof replacement 
  • Exterior painting 
  • Concrete sidewalk renewal 
  • Parking improvement, adding approximately 60 new parking stalls

The scope of work includes some tree and brush removal, back filling, storm work, electrical work for new lighting, paving with lane markings, followed by landscaping and restoration work. The City has hired an arborist as part of this project to reduce the impact to trees, where possible. 

Construction is anticipated to commence prior to the facility closure in mid-July with completion mid-September, in time for the Coquitlam 2016 55+ BC Games. Construction activity will be scaled back the week of August 15, to accommodate the provincial swim championships held at City Centre Aquatic Complex. 

Construction will take place Monday through Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with occasional work on some Saturdays.

There will be no access to the City Centre Aquatic Complex parking lot from August 22 to August 28. During this week, street parking will be available for visitors to Eagle Ridge Aquatic Centre Physiotherapy.

Visitors looking for pool or fitness centre alternatives during the closure can use their pass to drop into Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier Street). The facility is open 6 a.m. – 10 p.m. daily. Length swimming will also be available at Eagle Ridge Outdoor Pool (2689 Guildford Way) from Aug. 22 until Sept. 23, 2016.
