Renovations Begin at Poirier Community Centre

by Michelle Frilund |

COQUITLAM, BC, Sept. 8, 2017 – Upgraded fixtures, temperature control, windows, lighting and more are coming to Poirier Community Centre over the next few months.

Extensive interior and exterior renovations on the 50-year-old facility are set to begin the week of Sept. 5 and be completed by February 2018.

While the work takes place, most of the children’s, preschool and parent/child programming that typically use the three rooms and kitchen have been temporarily relocated to Centennial Activity Centre, Dogwood Pavilion, Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex and Vanier Centre. New program locations are listed in the Program Guide at www.coquitlam.ca/programguides.

The $1.9-million facelift will help extend the building’s life by at least another decade and vastly improve the public’s comfort and enjoyment of this facility. Users previously had to contend with uncomfortable air temperatures, broken cabinetry, old plumbing and other issues that are typical of older, outdated buildings.

Improvements will include:

  • New windows, doors, ceiling and room dividers;
  • New flooring and lighting;
  • Improved access to and use of exterior spaces;
  • Exterior stair upgrades;
  • Reconfigured and more efficient storage;
  • Washroom and kitchen upgrades;
  • New drywall, panels and painting; and
  • Mechanical and electrical upgrades.

Some of the walkways around the facility will be closed to the public during construction. Please follow all directional signs and respect construction fencing.

Project updates will be posted at www.coquitlam.ca/poirier throughout the renovation.
Users who are unsure of program locations should check the Program Guide available at www.coquitlam.ca/programguides or contact 604-927-4FUN (4386).
