Pop in to Coquitlam's Welcome Tent for Free Festive Fun

COQUITLAM, BC, Dec. 4, 2017 – Get into the festive spirit by taking part in free activities at Coquitlam’s Welcome Tent during the Lights at Lafarge Winter Lights Display. 

Join our Park Spark team, which includes community volunteers, on site Wednesdays to Sundays each week from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. The tent is located on the north end of Lafarge Lake near Town Centre Park Plaza.

Activities vary each week, ranging from scavenger hunts to light-making workshops and special theme nights. Dates and times will be publicized in advance at www.coquitlam.ca/parkspark and through the City’s social media channels. Here are this week’s events.

Wednesday, Dec. 6: Light-Making Workshop
Learn how to make a tulip bulb or lantern that will be added to our winter lights display.

Thursday, Dec. 7: Scavenger Hunt
Pick up your scavenger hunt card at the Welcome Tent and return it for a surprise.

Friday, Dec. 8: Special Host – Coquitlam's Environmental Services
Participate in a wildlife-themed scavenger hunt and get your photo taken with Hucklebeary Bear. Also learn more about recycling while creating a holiday-themed craft.

Saturday, Dec. 9: Special Host – HSBC
Wear a festive or creative hat to take part in a hat parade around the lake. Also take your photo in the free photo booth offered by corporate partner HSBC.

Sunday, Dec. 10: Special Host – RCMP
Drop in for an activity with the Coquitlam RCMP focusing on pedestrian safety – and pick up your ICBC reflector tag (while supplies last).

Mark Your Calendars: Jingle Bells Night (Friday, Dec. 22)
Join us at Lafarge Lake for an evening of carols and lights. Choirs will be stationed around the 1.2-km trail from 7 – 8 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., stop where you are and join in a community sing-a-long of Jingle Bells. Help us break our record of 500 singing voices! Bells and song sheets will be handed out while supplies last.

About Lights at Lafarge Winter Lights Display
The much-loved lights display features hundreds of thousands of lights at Lafarge Lake in Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park, running until Jan. 21, 2018. The lights switch on each night at dusk and power off at 11 p.m., with the exception of Dec. 31, when they will stay on until after midnight.

New this year, visitors can purchase hot drinks and snacks from a concession stand located near Town Centre Park Plaza, open Wednesdays to Sundays, 4:30 – 9 p.m. Cash, debit, Visa and MasterCard accepted.

The Winter Lights Display is easily accessed from Lafarge Lake-Douglas SkyTrain station, also with free parking available throughout Town Centre Park off Trevor Wingrove Way. For more event info, including a parking map, visit www.coquitlam.ca/parkspark.
