COQUITLAM, BC, August 7, 2018 – A full day of free live music, multicultural dance, interactive arts, craft beer, food and more awaits those heading to Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park for Kaleidoscope Arts Festival on Aug. 11.

Taking place 2 to 10 p.m. against the scenic backdrop of Lafarge Lake, Kaleidoscope was launched during the Coquitlam 125 anniversary festivities in 2016 and has become one of the region’s premier outdoor events of the summer. A video at www.coquitlam.ca/kaleidoscope offers a hint of what’s in store.

Soulful Juno award-winning artists, The Philosopher Kings, who celebrated the 20th anniversary of their platinum-selling album Famous, Rich and Beautiful last year will headline this year’s diverse musical lineup on two stages. Other performances include pop singer Mathew V, funk and soul dynamo Dawn Pemberton, violinist-extremist Kytami, the folk-pop of The Kwerks and Coquitlam’s own Bukola Balogun.

The Eagle Song Dancers, Royal Academy of Bhangra and eclectic urban dance collective OURO will bring the world of dance to the Engage Stage.

Event-goers can also try their hand at different art activities, peruse handmade treasures, be entertained by roving theatrical performers and enjoy other festival favourites such as food trucks, as well as craft beer and cider, which can be enjoyed throughout the festival site.

  • Live music on the TD Community Plaza stage runs 2 to 10 p.m.
  • Live dance and music on the Engage Stage runs 3 to 8:30 p.m.
  • Art Zone runs 2 to 8 p.m., with opportunities to get some body art, write or draw at the Writer’s Corner, decorate a seedling planter, and join in Evergreen Cultural Centre’s interactive improv exhibit “Do It.” Visitors can also help create a giant textile art installation through the community art-making project, “Weave Community Circles.”
  • The Artisan Market, running from 2 to 8 p.m., will feature one-of-a-kind items including jewellery, artwork, pottery and food.
  • Food Truck Alley will offer a variety of tasty fare, including vegetarian options, from 2 to 10 p.m.
  • Brew Corner, open from 2 to 9:30 p.m. and sponsored by Mariner Brewing, will serve up locally-brewed craft beer and cider that can be enjoyed throughout the festival grounds.

An ATM will be available on site. Town Centre Park is a short walk from the Lafarge Lake-Douglas SkyTrain station, and free parking is available off Trevor Wingrove Way.

The full schedule can be found at www.coquitlam.ca/kaleidoscope. Those interested in attending are encouraged to subscribe to the Kaleidoscope Facebook event for updates and reminders.
