by Caitlin Osborne |

COQUITLAM, BC, Nov. 28, 2018 – Free pop-up activities and special theme nights, including lakeside caroling, will add to the magic of Coquitlam’s Lights at Lafarge.

Running until Jan. 20, the annual display includes hundreds of thousands of lights to explore. Visitors can enhance their experience by joining Coquitlam’s Park Spark staff and volunteer team for pop-up activities throughout the season. Activities will take place around the lake on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from 6 – 8 p.m.

Mark your calendar for these upcoming highlights. All activities take place rain or shine. Dates, times and meeting locations will be publicized in advance at www.coquitlam.ca/parkspark and through the City’s social media channels.

  • Sparky Parade: Join us on Friday, Nov. 30, as Sparky the firefly leads a parade around Lafarge Lake! Glow sticks and candy canes will be handed out while quantities last.
  • Ugly Sweater Night: Wear your ugliest Christmas sweater on Saturday, Dec. 1, to walk the lake in style. There will be prizes for sweaters that light up!
  • Seasonal Snaps: Create memorable photos and snap a selfie with Coquitlam’s Park Spark team on Sunday, Dec. 2! We’ll bring the props, you bring the camera.
  • Jingle Bells Night: Join us at the lake on Friday, Dec. 21, for an evening of carols and lights. Groups of carolers will be stationed around the 1.2-km trail from 7-8 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., stop where you are and join in a high-spirited community sing-a-long of Jingle Bells.

New for 2018/19
Don’t miss the new Singing Tree; an interactive sound-activated light display controlled by artificial intelligence. The tree’s lights responds to singing, clapping and talking by changing both the colour and intensity of the lights.

About Lights at Lafarge
The much-loved lights display features hundreds of thousands of lights and displays around the 1.2-km lakeside trail at Lafarge Lake in Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park. The free display – the largest of its kind in Metro Vancouver – features multiple themed zones, with many new additions and surprises in store for this year.

The lights will be on display until Jan. 20, 2019. They turn on each night at dusk and power off at 11 p.m., with the exception of Dec. 31, when they will stay on until after midnight.

There will be a concession stand on-site Thursdays to Sundays, 4-10 p.m. through to Jan. 13. It will be located in parking lot D, near the maple leaf gazebo, on the north side of the lake.
