Current Swell to Headline Kaleidoscope Arts Festival

by Robbin Whachell |

COQUITLAM, B.C., May 15, 2019 – Indie artists Current Swell, Royal Canoe and Terra Lightfoot will perform at an action-packed free arts and music festival Saturday, Aug. 10 overlooking scenic Lafarge Lake in Coquitlam.

The City’s fourth annual Kaleidoscope Arts Festival at Town Centre Park will be a chance to jam to DJ tracks and top indie musicians, try your hand at the arts, browse unique handcrafted wares at the artisan market, watch artists in action, enjoy delicious food truck fare,  or simply chill out among the park’s greenery. With a cool vibe, plenty to explore and a site-wide liquor license, Kaleidoscope Arts Festival will look and feel like an urban street festival, with one notable exception – the beautiful lakeside setting just steps away from the SkyTrain. The event runs 2 to 9 p.m.

Indie rockers and international touring artists Current Swell, well known to Vancouver radio listeners, have been confirmed as the headliner on the TD Community Plaza stage. They’ll be performing tracks from their fifth studio album When to Talk and When to Listen – produced by the Grammy-winning Jacquire King – as well as popular earlier recordings.

Also confirmed for 2019 is the Juno-nominated indie pop act Royal Canoe, which released its seventh album Waver this year, along with folk-rock singer-songwriter Terra Lightfoot, whose latest release New Mistakes is garnering widespread attention.

Music will fill the site, with DJ Emilita getting the festival vibe going at 2 p.m. and live concert performances hitting the TD Community Plaza stage starting at 4:30 p.m.

The 2nd stage features an exciting lineup of pop-up performances – acrobats, dancers, musicians and more creating an immersive experience that will include artists in action, an artisan market, and hands-on activities like a selfie wall, mural painting, and a chalk wall.

Food trucks will offer everything from comfort food to international fare. Locally crafted beer and spirits will also be on offer and can be enjoyed throughout the site.

Kia West returns as presenting partner of the premier free summer event, which attracts thousands from throughout Metro Vancouver.  As Kaleidoscope’s top sponsor, Kia West will make a significant contribution towards the event costs.

Opportunities for additional partners starting at only $1000 are available through Coquitlam’s Corporate Partners program. For more information, contact 604-927-3587 or corporatepartners@coquitlam.ca, or visit www.coquitlam.ca/corporatepartners.
