Commercial Zones Review Responds to Changing Business Needs

by Rebecca Vaughan |

COQUITLAM, BC, Sept. 16, 2019 – Coquitlam is reviewing its commercial zones to make regulations more flexible for the business community and to respond to the changing needs of commercial businesses.

Why We’re Reviewing Commercial Zones
Coquitlam’s Zoning Bylaw has 13 commercial zones whose purpose is to regulate commercial uses or mixed commercial and residential uses. While existing commercial regulations are working well for many businesses, changing commercial needs and preferences have prompted the City to review and improve the Zoning Bylaw.

 The Commercial Zones Review will include:

  • consultation with key external and internal stakeholders in the local business and development communities;
  • a review of existing commercial regulations and regional best practices; and
  • Zoning Bylaw and Official Community Plan amendments.

Share Your Feedback on Commercial Zones in Coquitlam
The business community and members of the public are invited to provide feedback on commercial zones in Coquitlam through an online survey until Tuesday, Oct. 1 at www.coquitlam.ca/commercialzones

Next Steps
Following the survey and stakeholder engagement, the feedback will be evaluated and will inform updates to the City’s commercial zones and policies. These updates will be presented to Council at the end of the year, with the opportunity for community input at a public hearing in Spring 2020.
