Drop by Brookmere Park on Sept. 21 to Celebrate Upgrades

by Caitlin Osborne |

COQUITLAM, BC, Sept. 17, 2019 – Burquitlam-Lougheed residents are invited to drop by Brookmere Park on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 2 – 4 p.m. to check out the new upgrades, enjoy some tea and try out a ukulele.

Activities will include an official ribbon-cutting, kids’ activities and a ukulele performance and try-it session with Cutie Circle. Refreshments will be served until supplies last. The park is located at 565 Austin Ave.

A Priority for Redevelopment

A fixture in the community for decades, Brookmere Park was identified as a priority for redevelopment to meet the needs of the evolving neighbourhood.

Improvements began in 2018 with utility upgrades and extension of the Fairview/Dogwood Greenway with a new multi-use path and lighting. New amenities added this year include:

  • New playgound;
  • A half-size sports court;
  • Lawn areas and gardens;
  • Social plaza with seating and picnic tables; and
  • Trails and accessible walking paths.
The upgrades will allow for expanded programming opportunities, better access to and within the park, and a broader range of recreation options for the neighbourhood.

Funding for the improvements included a $400,000 contribution from the Onni Group.

The park’s existing features include a natural turf sports field, a paved 32-stall parking lot, and sports field which were last upgraded in the early 2000s.
