Volunteers Sought for 2020 Coquitlam Advisory Committees

COQUITLAM, B.C., Oct. 21, 2019 – Are you interested in volunteering your time, sharing your expertise and helping your community? The City of Coquitlam is seeking volunteers for its 2020 Advisory Committees in a variety of areas, including culture, economic development, multiculturalism, sports, sustainability and environmental and universal accessibility.

About Advisory Committees
Advisory Committees are responsible for providing information, well-considered advice and recommendations for consideration by City Council and staff on specific issues of civic concern. Committees are made up of citizen representatives and one or two Council members, appointed by Council.

City Council is currently inviting residents to apply to serve on the 2020 Advisory Committees. Citizens who have had some level of community involvement and a general interest in the topic area are encouraged to apply. The term of appointment is one year and the appointment is a voluntary position with no remuneration.

Seeking Residents 18-34 to Lend Their Perspectives
While all ages are welcome, residents between the ages of 18 – 34 are especially encouraged to apply to the City’s advisory committee to ensure their voices are heard and that they are able to contribute to the decisions affecting their community.

How to Apply and Criteria
Those interested in this opportunity are required to submit an application demonstrating their passion for the community, as well as any knowledge relevant to the committee they are applying to.

  • Applicants may not be employees of the City of Coquitlam.
  • Applicants must live in Coquitlam or be a representative of an organization operating in Coquitlam.
  • Applicants of all ages, genders, neighbourhoods, ethnic origins, income levels, sexual orientations and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply in order to appoint representatives of the broader community, and to address issues of those communities.
  • Applicants should be able to serve for the full term of the appointment (January – December 2020).
