Coquitlam Seeks Input on Proposed Northeast Rec Centre

by Rebecca Vaughan |

COQUITLAM, BC, Nov. 18, 2019 – Coquitlam residents are being asked to provide input in a survey from now until Dec. 8 on recreation needs and interests for consideration toward the future recreation centre in northeast Coquitlam.

Coquitlam’s Parks Recreation and Culture Master Plan identified the future need for a comprehensive multi-use recreation centre to serve the Burke Mountain Village neighbourhood area.  This centre is anticipated to be open in 2026, and will include a variety of programs and uses.

As part of the early planning stages, the City is seeking feedback from the neighbourhood and recreation users about their aspirations for the centre.

We Want to Hear From You
Tell us about your recreation interests and needs in the survey at www.coquitlam.ca/nerec. Feedback will be collected until the end of Sunday, Dec. 8.

Centre in Early Planning Stages
The survey is the beginning of a full planning process for the northeast recreation centre.

Further consultation in spring 2020 will include input from Council Advisory Committees and indoor sport user groups. A public open house will follow in the fall of 2020 with updates and opportunities to provide more input on the project at that time.

The consultation feedback, together with site analysis and application of community planning best principles will help inform the recreation centre concept for Council’s consideration and approval.

A concept design is anticipated to be presented to Council in 2021.
