The lights display will turn on at dusk (approx. 4:30 p.m.) so visitors can enjoy the lights before the festivities begin.

Tips to Have the Best Experience at the Kick-off Event

  • Bundle Up. This year’s event takes place entirely outdoors so dress in warm clothing and waterproof, durable footwear so you can comfortably take in all the festivities.
  • Take Transit. While there is some on-site parking at Town Centre Park, the Lights at Lafarge are popular and can get busy. Event-goers are encouraged to walk, carpool or take transit. Use Translink's TripPlanner or ride the SkyTrain to the Lafarge Lake-Douglas Station for easy access to Town Centre Park.
  • Bring Your Appetite. Starting at 5 p.m., visitors can enjoy light refreshments, warm beverages and comfort food on both sides of the lake from the on-site food trucks. This year, we have lots of great vendors including Big Red's Poutine, Coffee Bike, Dutchlicious Catering Services, Fry Factory, Street Dogs, Taters - The Baked Potato Co., Truckin' BBQ, and more! Come early or stay late and enjoy food service until 9 p.m.

  • Don’t Miss the Main Event. At 7:35 p.m., NZR Productions will wow the crowd with their multimedia fire and light show, The Phoenix Tree, on the TD Community Plaza stage. You won’t want to miss this!

  • Get Creative with the Kids. Stop by the corporate and community partner tents at the West Lake Village for some great holiday fun! You can vote for your favourite Christmas story and enter the draw for a chance to win a special library gift bag, create your own beautiful lantern using the whimsical technique of salad spinner splatter painting, learn how to make your own pom-poms and more!

  • Sing-Along to Holiday Favourites. Get into the holiday spirit with performances by Coastal Sound Music Academy and the Gentlemen of Fortune on the TD Community Plaza stage. Across the lake at the Busker stage, you can enjoy performances from The Crescent Sky and Chatham Roots.

  • Keep the Kids Safe. When you arrive, spend a few moments showing your kids and guests where the Information Booth is as a family meeting place in case you get separated during the event. Ensure your child knows your first and last name and cell phone number, and always know what your child is wearing. Before leaving home, take their picture with a cell phone to help you remember and consider including reflective bands on their clothing.

  • Remember to Have Fun! There are two entertainment hubs at the event – TD Community Plaza and the West Lake Village. Give yourself lots of time to travel around the lake. Use the site map and entertainment schedule to help plan your time. Enjoy your stroll around the lake and appreciate all the roving performers along the way.
