COQUITLAM, BC, March 27, 2014 – The City of Coquitlam is celebrating Earth Hour on March 29, 2014 and is inviting its citizens to do the same. Earth Hour is an annual event, organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), where citizens around the globe are asked to turn out their lights for just one hour.

This year, Coquitlam is committing to turning off all unnecessary lights in their closed buildings during Earth Hour with the City’s building service workers taking the lead and committing to help achieve this goal.

The City is inviting all residents and businesses to do their part to save electricity in whatever ways they can, and by turning off their lights for one hour on Saturday, March 29 from 8:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

Here are some fun ideas on how you can celebrate Earth Hour:

  1. Go for a walk.
  2. Star gaze.
  3. Play a board game by candlelight.
  4. Tell ghost stories.
  5. Go to bed early and catch up on some much needed sleep.
  6. Scavenger hunt by flashlight.
  7. Exercise.
  8. Unplug other electronics.
  9. Host a candlelight dinner party.
  10. Put down electronic devices and have a conversation.
