Help Light Up Lafarge Lake

by GS GS |
COQUITLAM, BC, Friday, November 28, 2014 – Join Coquitlam’s Park Spark team as we transform plastic pop bottles into illuminated flowers that will be part of the City’s seasonal light display around Lafarge Lake.

The City is hosting a series of workshops for participants to create a recycled plastic bottle flower. Flower making workshops are being held at the Innovation Centre (1207 Pinetree Way) on the following dates:
  • Sunday, November 30, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, December 2, 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, December 3, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, December 7, 3:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

To participate in one of the workshops, simply show up and, if possible, bring a 500 ml plastic bottle (we do have some extras available as well). Staff will teach you how to create your own plastic bottle tulip. If the weather is nice the workshops will be held outside the Innovation Centre, by the giant caterpillar. If it's raining, the workshops will be held inside. Please follow the signs and enter by the north door.

If you would like to arrange a workshop for a private or school group, please contact the Park Spark Program Leader at parkspark@coquitlam.ca or call 604-927-6312.

Alternatively, if you’d like to create your own flower at home, visit www.coquitlam.ca/parkspark to see an instructional video. To add your flower to the display, stop by the Innovation Centre on December 7 between 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

In addition to the light display at the lake, there will be caroling events throughout December. All caroling is weather dependent. Please visit www.coquitlam.ca/parkspark for confirmation.
  • December 2 at 7:00 p.m. – Caroling with the staff from Target Coquitlam
  • December 11 at 7:00 p.m. – Holiday songs performed by the Coquitlam Chorale Society
  • December 22 at 7:00 p.m. – Help us form the largest group singing of Jingle Bells. The first 100 people to show up will receive a free set of jingle bells!
Parking is available throughout Town Centre Park, off of Trevor Wingrove Way.

The light display can be viewed seven days a week from dusk to midnight until later in January. Throughout the month of January, please phone 604-927-6300 to confirm the light display schedule. For more information, including a video showing the display, visit www.coquitlam.ca/light. Photos of the display can be tagged with #CoquitlamLights.
