Five Ways to do something for the Environment in May

COQUITLAM, BC, April 22, 2015 – Building on the momentum of Earth Day today, the City of Coquitlam is offering its residents a number of ways to do something positive for the environment throughout the month of May.

Buy a Rain Barrel
On May 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., purchase a rain barrel at a discounted price of $55 (taxes included). Available at Parking Lot D in Town Centre Park (access via Trevor Wingrove Way, off of Pinetree Way or Pipeline Road).  Rain barrels can also be purchased in advance and picked-up on the day of from www.enviroworld.ca/coquitlam.

Add Free Compost to your Garden
On May 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Coquitlam residents can pick up one free bag of compost, while supplies last, from the Inspiration Garden (corner of Pipeline Road and Guildford Way). More information at www.coquitlam.ca/composting.

Get a Rebate on an Energy-Efficient Washer
In partnership with BC Hydro, Coquitlam residents can qualify for a $100-$200 rebate on select energy star clothes washers purchased between May 1 and June 30, 2015. More information at www.powersmart.ca/appliances.

Buy a Composter – and Get a Free Kitchen Catcher
For the month of May, when you purchase a composter from City Hall (3000 Guildford Way) or the Coquitlam Animal Shelter (500 Mariner Way) for $25 plus tax, we’ll give you a free kitchen catcher for your food scraps, while supplies last. More information at www.coquitlam.ca/composting.

Tour the Coquitlam Watershed
In partnership with Metro Vancouver, the City is offering free tours of the Coquitlam Watershed to learn more about local water from source to tap. Tours are Saturday, May 9 from 9:00 a.m. – noon, or 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. RSVP by calling Metro Vancouver by May 6 at 604-432-6359.
