Design Work Underway for New Mundy Fieldhouse

by Kevin Henkelman |

COQUITLAM, BC, July 7, 2015 – Work is now underway for the design of a new fieldhouse in Mundy Park.

In December 2014, Council endorsed the replacement of the aging Mundy Park Fieldhouse with a new one-storey building with washroom facilities, and committed $1.4 million from Building Replacement Reserves and Development Cost Charges to facilitate the construction of this new facility.

Proposed features and amenities of the new fieldhouse were presented to the Sport Council, and sport park users and residents. All were supportive of the replacement project and proposed building plan.

A preliminary design includes 2,600 square feet of space including wheelchair accessible washrooms, a 1,500 square foot multi-purpose room (which can be divided into two separate rooms), a warming kitchen for use by sports groups during tournaments, and seasonal sports equipment storage space.

Design and tendering is expected to continue through the summer and early fall 2015. Construction is expected to begin in late fall or early winter 2015 with opening in the spring of 2016. Temporary washrooms will be provided during the construction phase.
