School is back Tuesday, September 8th, 2015

COQUITLAM, BC, September 1, 2015 – Coquitlam RCMP, Engineering & Public Works, and Bylaw Enforcement Officers, as well as School District 43, are actively preparing for the safe return of children to school and are asking you to do your part as well.

Parents and drivers:

  • Posted 30km/h School Zones are in effect on school days from 8:00 am to 5:00 p.m.
  • Please drive with care around school zones, particularly in the first few weeks when children may be pre-occupied or unfamiliar with their surroundings.
  • If you must drive your children to school please obey all the rules. 
  • Expect increased enforcement by Bylaws and RCMP.
  • Safety is everyone’s responsibility and those who drive to the school need to be especially mindful of other people on the road. 
  • Check with your catchment area school for specific rules and instructions on safe student drop-off and pickup
Students and pedestrians:
  • To reduce traffic congestion around the schools and promote healthy exercise consider walking to/from (or part way to/from) school. 
  • Coquitlam Engineering & Public Works has been busy improving walking routes to school. New sidewalk facilities include:
    • Alderson Elementary School - Bernatchy Street ,Thrift St to Alderson Ave 
    • Maillard Middle School - Brunette Avenue, Laurentian St to ½ block east
    • Como Lake Middle School – Gatensbury Street, Foster Ave to King Albert Ave
    • Rochester Elementary School – Laurentian Crescent, Austin Ave to Hammond Ave (*)
    • Montgomery Middle School – Montgomery Street, Austin Ave to Kugler Ave(*)
    • Centennial High School – Poirier Street, Austin Ave to King Albert Ave(*)
    • Rochester Elementary School – Schoolhouse Street, Austin Ave to Madore Ave(*)
      * Currently under construction.
Please consider using these new pedestrian sidewalks to reduce traffic congestion, reduce emissions, and improve your health.
