“It’s wonderful to have the Games here in Coquitlam both for the City and for all the local athletes”, said Statton. “The 55+ athlete community is already excited about the fantastic support from Coquitlam and we are confident that our sport community, Host Society and athletes will host a stellar event.”

The 55+ BC Games are governed by the BC Seniors Games Society, a volunteer not-for-profit organization that has representation across BC.  When the 55+ Games are awarded to a community, a process is put in place to nominate a local volunteer Board of Directors, called the “Host Society.”  The Host Society must register for status as a not-for-profit society and sign an Agreement for Financial Assistance with the BC Games Society.  The Games are funded primarily by the BC Seniors Games Society (BCSGS) and the Provincial Government.

The Coquitlam 2016 55+ BC Games Society is presently working on sport and venue selection which will be announced in November 2015.

In anticipation of the upcoming games, Coquitlam will be offering a number of free "Try-It" programs for 55+ athletes to try something new and explore fun and exciting activities. The City also has many volunteer opportunities for those who want to be involved.
