Coquitlam to Update Development Cost Charges

by Michelle Frilund |

COQUITLAM, BC, October 13, 2015 – Coquitlam is seeking the public’s input on proposed revisions to the City’s Development Cost Charges (DCCs).

Residents and interested members of the public are invited to attend a Community Information Session on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at City Hall (3000 Guildford Way).

DCCs are levied on new development to assist in financing the cost of upgrading or providing infrastructure services (such as roads, water, sewer and drainage) or acquiring and developing parkland needed to support new development.

  • Subdivision approval to create single family lots; and
  • Development of multi-family residential, commercial, institutional or industrial sites where the value of the building permit exceeds $150,000 or an amount defined by the DCC Bylaw.

The last major DCC review in Coquitlam was in 2012. Since then, a number of new servicing studies have been completed. As such, the update includes revisions to growth projections, construction costs and land values, capital programs and current City DCC reserves.

To learn more about the proposed increases, including the proposed new rates, visit www.coquitlam.ca/dccupdate.
