COQUITLAM, BC, Novmeber 23, 2014 – Add Coquitlam to your list of places to take in Christmas lights this holiday season.

This is the fifth year for Coquitlam’s Christmas light display and it is one of the largest free outdoor light displays in the Lower Mainland. The display can be viewed seven days a week from dusk to midnight until January.

City Hall and Spirit Square (3000 Guildford Way) – There are approximately 10,000 individual lights located by the Burlington Street entrance to City Hall and Spirit Square. The Christmas tree alone has over 2,500 lights and is approximately 30 feet tall.

Lafarge Lake (Guildford Way & Pinetree Way) – Take a stroll to take in the approximately 50,000 individual LED lights in the trees. The tallest feature is the three LED-lit Sequoia trees, which are approximately 45 feet tall.

There are also several dozen other custom illuminations including:

  • A lit trail section from the fishing pier, south to Guildford Avenue, complete with suspended chandeliers;
  • Custom-illuminated gardens at the Inspiration Garden (Guildford and Pipeline) – take your picture on the illuminated tractor;
  • A round-framed caterpillar that people can walk through;
  • A ‘fantasy forest’ village, which is home to several ‘Halflings’ that work in the ‘mine shafts’;
  • A 14-foot tall, animated elf, fishing off the pier; and
  • A white garden with seven illuminated reindeer;
  • A simulated waterfall;
  • An illuminated ‘tulip’ garden made by the community from recycled plastic bottles.

The display is designed to be appreciated on foot along the south end of Lafarge Lake and along Guildford Way between Pinetree Way and Pipeline Road with parking available at the Evergreen Cultural Centre lot (1205 Pinetree Way) or beside the Inspiration Garden (Guildford Way at Pipeline Road).

The display is energy-efficient and sure to delight kids and grown-ups alike.  For a sample of what you can expect, check out our video at http://bit.ly/cqlights.
