New Look and Feel for Rochester Park

by Heather Escaravage |

COQUITLAM, BC, December 8, 2015 – The new Rochester Park is one step closer to reality following Coquitlam Council’s approval of the detailed final design and budget.

Rochester Park is a partially-developed 10-acre community park in the Maillardville Neighbourhood. The redevelopment includes building creative park elements and providing new amenities in this significant park.

New elements will be based on an outdoor nature play theme. The park will feature amenities for all members of the family and include:

  • Youth area with skateable elements, obstacle climbing structure, zipline and tunnel slide;
  • Play areas for children and youth of all ages, interests and abilities;
  • A unique water play feature for year round use;
  • New washroom facility and picnic shelter;
  • Informal grass areas for picnicking;
  • 2 parking lots;  and
  • A new trail network, enhanced and coordinated with the restoration of Como Creek

City staff worked with School District 43 and École Maillard Middle School to help integrate the school and park properties together and coordinate the shared use of the park amenities and parking lot.

Planning, design and consultation for these renovations has been ongoing throughout 2015. Construction will begin in early 2016 with completion later in the year, at a total cost of $4.355 million.

As design and development advance, information will be posted to www.coquitlam.ca/parksplanning
