Coquitlam’s Free Winter Lights Display Features Over 100,000 Lights!

by Heather Escaravage |

COQUITLAM, BC, Nov. 28, 2016 – More than 100,000 twinkling lights will illuminate Lafarge Lake this holiday season in a magical outdoor display that’s sure to delight visitors of all ages.

Coquitlam’s Lights at Lafarge Winter Lights Display is one of the largest free outdoor light events in the Lower Mainland, and this year’s spectacle will be even bigger and brighter than ever before.

The lights display can be viewed seven days a week from dusk until 11 p.m. until Jan. 22. New this year, the lights will remain on until 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 for visitors to take a magical stroll through the park to ring in the New Year!

The Winter Lights Display can be viewed at:

City Hall and Spirit Square (3000 Guildford Way) – View the dazzling display of 10,000 lights located by the Burlington St. entrance to City Hall and Spirit Square. The Christmas tree alone has over 2,500 lights and is approximately 30 feet tall.

Lafarge Lake (Trevor Wingrove Way) – For the first time, Coquitlam’s Winter Lights Display will wrap its way entirely around Lafarge Lake, leading visitors on a 1.2-kilometre loop through 10 themed zones:

Winter Lights Gate – The entrance off Trevor Wingrove Way features lighted trees that will set the stage for the magical light display to follow.

Caterpillar – Walk through the lighted 90-foot framed caterpillar – a seasonal favourite!

O Canada – As an ode to everything Canadian on the eve of Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017, the banks along the northeast side of the lake will be aglow with illuminated maple leafs.

Walk on the Wild Side – Look out on the north end of lake for woodland creatures and illuminated flowers guiding the way.

Arbour Walk – Meander the lighted archways along the lake’s west side and enjoy their reflection off the water below.

Fantasy Forest – This display includes curious creatures and an elfin tree house.

Rendezvous at the Pier – The pier will feature a dining table brightened by a chandelier.

Woodland Garden – Illuminated by overhead starbursts, enjoy an illuminated garden of more than 500 tulip lights created by community members.

Starry Night – Recognizing the Coquitlam 125 anniversary, it includes a special illuminated garden bed as well as a 14-foot-tall animated elf that casts its fishing line into the lake.

Bright Reflections – Home of the Welcome Tent, which will host numerous Park Spark activities.

Lafarge Lake is located in Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way) and can also be accessed from the Lafarge Lake-Douglas SkyTrain Station. Parking is available throughout Town Centre Park off of Trevor Wingrove Way. For more information about the display and ongoing activities, visit the Park Spark webpage.

Coquitlam’s annual seasonal light display is a beloved community tradition with a growing regional following, and this year’s expanded display is expected to draw even larger crowds than usual. A special thank you goes out to Port of Vancouver for partnering with the City in support of one of this year’s light display features, the Arbour Walk, as well as the many organizations and residents who have volunteered their time to make this years’ display a huge success.
