by Robbin Whachell |

COQUITLAM, BC, June 15, 2017 – Would you know what to do if you encountered a bear on a trail – or in your backyard? Bear expert, Tom Saare will teach Coquitlam residents how to live with bears, and manage attractants, as well as give valuable safety tips for when encountering bears.

Reinforcing Coquitlam’s commitment to being a Bear Smart Community, the City’s Urban Wildlife Team is hosting a free Bear Smart 101 presentation on Wednesday, July 12, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at City Hall in the Council Chambers (3000 Guildford Way).

Location Update: Moved to Evergreen Cultural Centre, 1205 Pinetree Way

2016 was a record year for bear activity in Coquitlam, with the City receiving 270 calls related to bears, and 492 calls related to unsecured garbage – which is the most common bear attractant.

Be Bear Smart and preregister for Bear Smart 101 today, as seating is limited.  Light refreshments will be provided. Register online for free at www.coquitlam.ca/bearsmart101.
