by Michelle Frilund |

COQUITLAM, BC, Nov. 15, 2017 – Consultation for the Pipeline Road Functional Design is moving into its second phase, and Coquitlam residents are invited to provide their feedback.

On Wednesday, Nov. 29, City staff will be on hand to answer questions at an information session at Coquitlam City Hall (3000 Guildford Way) from 4 – 8 p.m. In this second session, participants will have an opportunity to look at the design options under consideration and the proposed evaluation criteria.

The Pipeline Road Design Project aims to enhance travel, street conditions and safety on the road while meeting the needs of a growing community.

The intent of the project is to design a cost-effective arterial street that continues to provide the transportation needs all users. Benefits will include improvements to mobility, safety, aesthetics, lighting, pedestrian and cycling facilities, and the gateway into Town Centre Park.

Pipeline Road is an arterial roadway in the City Centre and an important gateway to Town Centre Park, as well as a frequent route for residents traveling to Northeast Coquitlam.

During the first stage of consultation in spring 2017, nearly 200 participants completed the project survey, with feedback generally indicating a need for a wider road with additional lanes, dedicated turning lanes, improved crosswalks and sidewalks, as well as enhanced landscaping.

Seventy-five per cent of respondents ranked sidewalks as the most important or second most important street feature, while 49 per cent of participants ranked additional vehicle lanes as the most important or second most important feature.Selection of the preferred design is planned for early 2018, followed by a detailed design and construction phasing with construction to be scheduled for 2019.

Residents who are unable to attend the information session in person can visit from Nov. 30 to Dec. 15 to view the information and complete the survey.
