Winter is Here – Are You Prepared?

by Heather Escaravage |

COQUITLAM, BC, Dec. 19, 2017 – Snow is falling and as City crews have begun their 24/7 winter response, residents are reminded to get winter wise.

City crews have been pre-salting priority routes and 14 City trucks have been outfitted with plows and sanders to respond to the falling snow and keep roads safe. Staff will be monitoring the situation closely to mobilize additional response, as necessary.

Note that, while snow is falling, streets will still be plowed according to the City’s priority routes system focusing on primary roads (arterials, collectors, bus routes and access roads to schools) with local roads and lanes only being plowed as resources allow.

Residents can report areas of concern through the new Coquitlam Snow Response Request tool available on the Winter Wise webpage. This tool enables information to be provided to City staff in real-time.

In the meantime, there are a few key things residents can do to help City crews serve you better:

  • Wherever possible, park in the driveway so that plows can clear curb to curb (and watch for seasonal no parking zones);
  • Clear your sidewalk and driveway by clearing the snow to the back of your driveway or sidewalk, rather than toward the road where plows may push it back on to your driveway or sidewalk;
  • Clear the catch basin in front of your home to help avoid flooding (catch basin map available on the Winter Wise webpage); and
  • Review the personal preparedness information on the Winter Prep webpage.
