Calling All Youth: Have your Say on Coquitlam’s Youth Recreation Plan

by Michelle Frilund |

COQUITLAM, BC, July 25, 2018 – The City of Coquitlam wants to hear from youth and young adults before the end of August to help guide the future delivery of parks, recreation and culture services in Coquitlam.

Until Aug. 31, youth (11-18 years old) and young adults (19-24 years old) are asked to complete a survey at to provide feedback on three areas: drop-in or registered programs at recreation facilities, park amenities and activities, and volunteering with the City.

One lucky survey respondent will win a $100 gift card to Coquitlam Centre.

About the Youth Recreation Plan
This survey is part of an update to the 2006 Youth Strategy in order to support youth in achieving a healthy, balanced lifestyle that includes opportunities to play, move, create, connect and explore.

The 2006 strategy provided four strategic directions on delivering parks, recreation and culture services to youth:

  1. Eliminating barriers to active participation.
  2. Promoting safety and personal wellness.
  3. Youth and adults building relationships.
  4. Youth being asked and being heard.

About the Youth Recreation Plan Update
Phase I of the plan update is taking place in summer 2018. The City is looking for high-level feedback from youth who have participated in a recreation program, visited the City’s parks and trails, or volunteered with the City. The questions aim to provide some insight into strengths in these areas, as well as values and feelings of participants.

In Phase II of the update, scheduled for fall 2018, the City will be looking to hear from all Coquitlam youth and from adults who support youth at home, at school, and in the community.
