Learn Some Fun Facts about Coquitlam during Tourism Week

COQUITLAM, BC, May 24, 2019 – Did you know that Hollywood stars came to Coquitlam during the 1930s and ’40s for salmon fishing retreats? Find out more about this – and other – fun facts about our city during national Tourism Week from Sunday, May 26 to Saturday, June 1.

Coquitlam’s Tourism Office will shine a light on 15 things you might not know about this place we call home. It’s an opportunity to learn something new and be a tourist in our own town. 

Join us by following and sharing our posts on Tourism Coquitlam’s social media channels (@visitcoquitlam). 

At the end of the week, we’ll be giving away a prize package including a $100 gift card for Coquitlam Centre, four rounds of golf at EagleQuest Coquitlam and a copy of Colleen MacDonald’s book about local bike rides, Let’s Go Biking. 15 Things You Might Not Have Known About Coquitlam 

Here’s a teaser to some of the fun facts you’ll be reading about this week. 

  • During the 1930s, the world’s elite were wined and dined at Minnekhada Lodge.
  • There’s only one Hard Rock Casino in Canada – and it’s in Coquitlam.
  • Coquitlam is home to Canada’s largest functional fitness event, CanWest Games.
  • More than 100,000 teddy bears have attended the Teddy Bear Parade and Picnic in Coquitlam during the past 30 years.
  • Coquitlam hosts the Canadian National Lacrosse Championships this summer and the FIL Men’s World Field Lacrosse Championships in 2022.
