Royal Canoe to Perform at Kaleidoscope Arts Festival

by Robbin Whachell |

COQUITLAM, BC, July 17, 2019 – The Juno-nominated Royal Canoe will bring its beat-driven blend of pop, rock and hip-hop to Coquitlam’s free Kaleidoscope Arts Festival on Saturday, Aug. 10.

The Winnipeg-based sextet with an international following will be one of several top indie acts performing at the fourth annual Kaleidoscope, a free arts and music festival running 2 to 9 p.m. in Town Centre Park. The venue overlooks scenic Lafarge Lake and is steps from the SkyTrain.

Don’t let the name fool you – you won’t find plaid and pine trees in Royal Canoe’s music, but rather a bright, percussive style of indie pop with a focus on instrumentalism and tuneful, layered songwriting. The band dives into new territory in its latest album Waver, which centres around lyrics and vocals.

Don’t miss a chance to find out what fans around the world have already discovered about this critically acclaimed band, which will hit the TD Community Plaza Stage at 4:30 p.m., followed by folk-rocker Terra Lightfoot at 5:45 p.m. and international touring artists and local favourites Current Swell at 7:30 p.m.

Music, Art, Food and More – It’s All in the Guide

Check out the colourful eight-page festival guide at to get the most out of what will be one of the region’s premier free events this summer.

It all starts at 2 p.m., when DJ Emelita hits the stage to get the street-festival vibe going. Try out hands-on art activities, watch artists in action, browse unique artisan wares, fill up at the food trucks and roam the site with a craft drink or spirit in hand, thanks to the site-wide liquor licence. Make sure to watch for off-stage performances by Blink Acro, Hip Hop Hoop Dance, Gamelan Bike Bike and Disco Funeral.
