New Community Signs Program Effective Aug. 19

by Caitlin Osborne |

COQUITLAM, BC, Aug. 14, 2019Coquitlam’s new regulations for the Community User Group Sign Program take effect on Monday, Aug. 19, 2019

The Community User Group Sign Program has given local organizations a low-cost alternative to traditional advertising methods. For no cost (other than to produce their signs) groups have been able to install their signs at the following six locations around the city

  • North Road and Cameron Street
  • Lougheed Highway and Brunette Avenue
  • Mariner Way and Austin Avenue
  • Lougheed Highway and Dewdney Trunk Road
  • Johnson Street and Guildford Way
  • Shaughnessy Street and David Avenue

Starting Aug. 19, stand-alone signs from user groups will no longer be permitted at any of these locations. Instead, the City has installed sign holders at each location, able to hold two eight-foot by four-foot signs or four four-foot by four-foot signs. Signs can be slid in from either side of the frame making it easier for user groups.

Use of the new frames will be on a first-come, first-served basis. However, if there are issues with capacity, the following criteria (in descending order) will be applied: groups that are not-for-profit, groups that are based in Coquitlam, and groups whose events are in the City of Coquitlam.

The new guidelines for the sign program were developed following consultation with select City Advisory Committees, user groups and other stakeholders.

More specific information about the guidelines is available at www.coquitlam.ca/communitysignage.
