Coquitlam Organizations Invited to Apply For Spirit Grant

COQUITLAM, B.C., Sept. 9, 2019 – Non-profit community organizations planning a project, activity or event in Coquitlam in the second half of 2020 can apply for Spirit of Coquitlam grant funding until Sept. 30.

The City awards Spirit of Coquitlam Grants twice a year to help local organizations host events, purchase equipment or complete initiatives or capital projects that benefit Coquitlam residents. The fall application period ending Sept. 30 will be for projects or events from July to Dec. 2020.

To be eligible, projects must take place in Coquitlam, primarily benefit Coquitlam residents, be sustainable beyond the grant funding, and have outcomes that align with the City’s strategic goals. Applicants must also be in good financial standing with the City.

In addition, organizations will be required to show they have applied for a BC Community Gaming Grant (if eligible), and priority will be given to applicants contributing at least 10 per cent of the project value in cash.

Over 200 Community Organizations have Benefitted from the Coquitlam Spirit Grant Program

The grant program is funded by Casino Hosting Agreement proceeds and has handed out more than $8.83 million to over 200 organizations since 2002. Funded projects from 2018/2019 include Festival du Bois, BC Highland Games, Coquitlam Skating Club’s annual Ice Show and Coquitlam Search and Rescue.

After the deadline on Sept. 30, a multi-departmental staff team will review the grant requests and forward recommendations to Council for discussion and approval.

 About the Spirit of Coquitlam Grant Program

The Spirit of Coquitlam Grant Program was created in 2002 to assist local organizations in purchasing equipment, hosting events, and realizing capital projects to advance community goals. Since 2002, through this program, the City of Coquitlam has awarded over $8.83 million to over 200 different community organizations. Funding for the Spirit of Coquitlam Grant Program comes from the Casino Host Agreement revenue. Full program details are available at
