Coquitlam Centre Signs on to Support Key City Events

by Caitlin Osborne |

COQUITLAM, BC, Nov. 7, 2019 Two major City events have received a two-year boost from Coquitlam Centre.

Coquitlam Centre – managed by Morguard Corporation – has signed on as the City’s two-year Winter Lights & Summer Nights partner, which involves sponsorship of Lights at Lafarge in 2019/2020 and 2020/2021, the Summer Concert Series in 2020 and 2021, and the City’s post-event public surveys from 2019 to 2021.

The commitment from B.C.’s fifth largest shopping centre will be used to enhance the events, while showcasing Coquitlam Centre to hundreds of thousands of people from the Tri-Cities and beyond.

Events Bring Thousands to Coquitlam

Lights at Lafarge, a dazzling display at Lafarge Lake and Town Centre Park, kicks off Saturday, Nov. 30 at 6-8 p.m. and will run until Jan. 19, 2020. As Metro Vancouver’s largest free light show, it attracts people from throughout the region. Last year, an estimated 9,000 people attended the kick-off and hundreds of thousands visited the winter lights display over the eight-week duration.

Watch for Coquitlam Centre representatives with giveaways and activities at this year’s launch event on Saturday, Nov. 30.

The Summer Concert Series, which wrapped up its third season in September, has also become a crowd favourite since its start in 2017. Residents from throughout the region converge on the stunning TD Community Plaza in Town Centre Park for the free evening performances in July and August.

The series was named ‘Best Outdoor Concert’ by Tri-City residents in 2018. This year’s three concerts were estimated to have drawn over 4,200 people.

Corporate Partners Program Pairs Businesses with Community Events

Coquitlam Centre’s sponsorship of the two events was secured through Coquitlam’s Corporate Partners Program (CCP), a revenue-generating program that helps the City offset the rising cost of public services through corporate event and program sponsorship. Benefits to businesses include direct exposure to thousands of people, on-site marketing opportunities, recognition in City materials and positive relationships with the community.

Launched in 2015, the CCP has brought in $265,000 in cash contributions so far in 2019 from sponsors at a variety of levels, ranging from entry-level to significant Presenting Partners. Since its start, the program has generated just over $634,000 in revenue.
