Waste Collection During the COVID-19 Outbreak

Garbage and green waste collection services are operating normally at this time; however, for the safety of our contractors’ workers, Coquitlam residents are asked to continue separating their waste properly, including using the Recycle BC receptacles for recycling materials. All garbage and organic materials must be put in their designated carts.

NOTE: If you or a member of your household is sick, double-bag items such as tissues, wipes, gloves, and masks and place in your Garbage Cart.

Recycle BC’s Role

  • The City of Coquitlam does not manage curbside collection – it is a service provided free to residents by Recycle BC.
  • Recycle BC contracts GFL Environmental (formerly Smithrite) to collect curbside recycling from single-family homes and select multi-family homes.
  • Curbside recycling is picked up once per week and must be out for collection by 7 a.m. in A.M. zones or by 10 a.m. in P.M. zones. See the curbside collection calendar to determine what zone you are in.
  • To learn more about what materials are accepted and how to use and sort your curbside recycling, visit
