Road & Utility Improvements Projects

The City of Coquitlam works continuously to maintain, upgrade and expand the roads and infrastructure. There may also be projects underway in Coquitlam that are the responsibility of another entity.

Traffic Hot Spots

Please use alternate routes to avoid delays during construction and note that "Anticipated Start Dates" are ​subject to ​change. Information will be updated on an ongoing basis as soon as it is available. You can follow the City on our social media channels where we update regularly with info on our Traffic Hot Spots.

Remember to please watch for work crews and equipment and obey all traffic control personnel and signs, including construction speed limits.

Lougheed Highway – Construction Update

What: Centre Median Road Work and Multi-Use Pathway Construction

Where: Lougheed Highway from Chilko Drive to Riverview Lands (Orchid Drive)

When: Ongoing construction until late summer

Traffic Impacts: Traffic delays - Traffic will be limited to one lane southbound between the hours of 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., and one lane northbound between the hours of 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. Please plan an alternate route to avoid delays.  In addition, night time work will take place on Lougheed Hwy at Chilko Drive – expect delays.

Como Lake Avenue - FortisBC Pipeline Project
FortisBC is installing a new 30" gas pipeline along Como Lake Avenue. The project is expected to last until fall 2019 and will have significant traffic impacts. For information visit talkingenergy.ca or contact FortisBC directly at 604-592-7494 or gaslineupgrades@fortisbc.com.

Lansdowne Drive  Pavement Rehabilitation 
Ongoing road repaving work on Lansdowne Drive from Guildford Way to Briarcliffe Drive until mid-September. Please use alternate routes to avoid delays. ​Watch for dedicated traffic control personnel.

Barnet/Lougheed Highways - Coquitlam Central Station to Westwood Street 
TransLink is working to improve its bus service in Coquitlam with the construction of the Lougheed B-Line. The Lougheed B-Line will bring rapid-bus service to this important corridor for the first time, connecting the communities of Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Port Coquitlam and Coquitlam with fast and reliable bus service that rivals the speed of SkyTrain. Construction will take place along Lougheed Highway (and Barnet Highway), between Johnson and Westwood streets, with a majority of the work taking place at Coquitlam Central Station.

Construction is scheduled to begin the first week of July and will take approximately three months (weather dependent). Work will be completed in phases, with some work taking place during daytime hours (7 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and some work taking place during the overnight hours (7 p.m. to 4 a.m.). Every effort will be made to minimize impacts during construction.

Capital Project Road Work - Summer Repaving

Watch for repaving this summer as part of the City’s annual capital program:

  • David Ave: Glenbrook St. to Shaughnessy St.
  • Laurentian Cres.: Austin Ave. to Brunette Ave.
  • Lansdowne D.: Guildford Way to Briarcliffe Dr.

Work will take place Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. (some occasional Saturday work).

Traffic flow and street parking on Lansdowne Dr. and Laurentian Cres. will be impacted – lane closures will be in place so plan an alternate route.

Other Major Projects

Gatensbury
The City of Port Moody will be improving Gatensbury Road from Grant Street to north of Bartlett Avenue. The area will be closed 24 hours a day, seven days a week to all vehicle traffic (except local residents ) between October 2018 and May 2019. Lougheed Highway - Riverview Lands
Riverview Lands development-related road safety improvements along Lougheed Highway, between Orchid Drive and Pitt River Road will be on-going until Spring / Summer 2019.  Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. Single lane traffic during active construction. Lougheed B-Line Construction Project
TransLink is working to improve its bus service in Coquitlam with the construction of the Lougheed B-Line. The Lougheed B-Line will bring rapid-bus service to this important corridor for the first time, connecting the communities of Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Port Coquitlam and Coquitlam with fast and reliable bus service that rivals the speed of SkyTrain. As part of the project, the following will be completed: 

  • Changes to the curbs and gutters, including removal and pouring of new concrete
  • Removal of existing road material and pouring of concrete at new B-Line bus stops
  • Line marking removal and new line marking installation
  • New signage installation
  • Creation of a new, multi-use pathway that runs on the south side of Lougheed Highway from Christmas Way to Westwood Street, requiring limited tree removal and replanting
