Road & Utility Improvements Projects

The City of Coquitlam works continuously to maintain, upgrade and expand the roads and infrastructure. There may also be projects underway in Coquitlam that are the responsibility of another entity.

Traffic Hot Spots

Please use alternate routes to avoid delays during construction and note that "Anticipated Start Dates" are ​subject to ​change. Information will be updated on an ongoing basis as soon as it is available. You can follow the City on our social media channels where we update regularly with info on our Traffic Hot Spots.

Remember to please watch for work crews and equipment and obey all traffic control personnel and signs, including construction speed limits.

Austin Avenue Water Main Project

The City awarded a contract to Sandpiper Contracting LLP to install a new water main along Austin Avenue from Brookmere Park to approximately the 700 block of Austin Avenue. This work is being completed in advance of Austin Avenue road repaving which is expected to take place this summer.

The scope of the construction includes the installation of a new water main, hydrants, some water service connections, followed by restoration work. Construction is scheduled to commence mid-March (the week of March 16) and will take approximately two months, weather dependent. Construction crews will work Monday through Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Traffic flow will be impacted during construction with single lane westbound traffic 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and single lane eastbound traffic Monday through Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Please plan extra time when using this route.

Como Lake Greenway Enhancements - Centre Median

The City awarded a contract to Arise Contracting Inc. to complete the centre median enhancements along Como Lake Avenue from Mariner Way to just west of Baker Drive.

The scope of work includes the installation of an irrigation system, drainage improvements, concrete and asphalt works, followed by landscaping and restoration work.

Construction crews will work Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., with some occasional Saturday work.

Construction is scheduled to commence mid-March (March 16) and may take up to three months to complete (weather dependent). Traffic flow will be impacted during construction, including single-lane closures. Delays are to be expected, but every effort will be made to minimize disruptions.

FortisBC Eagle Mountain to Woodfibre Gas Pipeline Project

FortisBC will be introducing proposed changes to the Eagle Mountain – Woodfibre Gas Pipeline Project in 2020. Prior to commencing any construction work on this project, FortisBC has committed to ongoing community engagement and opportunities for the public to participate in the process. North Road Sewer Upgrade Project - Metro Vancouver

Starting mid-February 2020, work will continue from Rochester Street to north of the intersection of Lougheed Highway and North Road. During this phase of work, construction will occur at night between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., six days a week. To allow full access to businesses and driveways within this section of North Road during daytime hours, the work zone will be temporarily cleared and paved each morning by 6 a.m. There may be some turning lane restrictions during this work.
