King Albert Greenway

About the King Albert Greenway

Greenways are multi-modal transportation corridors with a range of enhanced design features. The King Albert Greenway will provide a safe, accessible and attractive walking and cycling route from Gatensbury Street to Hillcrest Street.

The route will provide connectivity to a number of schools (Vanier Centre, Como Lake Middle School, Centennial High School) and civic facilities within the Poirier precinct, such as the Poirier Sport & Leisure Centre and Poirier Community Centre, as well as providing connections to the existing Poirier Avenue Greenway and Hillcrest-Como Lake Greenway.

Some of the greenway features being considered include:

  • New multi-use pathway;
  • New Sidewalk;
  • New bridge crossing over Como Creek;
  • Curb extensions at intersections;
  • Improved intersection crossings with new wheelchair letdowns;
  • New signage and pavement markings; and,
  • Landscape improvements.

The King Albert Greenway is identified as a Class 1 bicycle route in the City’s Strategic Transportation Plan, which means that it is intended to appeal to cyclists of all abilities from novice to expert.
