The City of Coquitlam is currently reviewing its Spirit of Coquitlam Grant with the intent of making adjustments to ensure the program is financially sustainable, responsive to community needs, and supports City strategic goals.  

The City of Coquitlam would like to invite you to provide feedback on the current Spirit Grant program, to collect your perspective and ideas to inform adjustments to the program.  Please follow the survey link below to complete our ten minute survey.

2019 Spirit of Coquitlam Logo - Colour

The City provides annual grants to non-profit, community-based organizations. Its intent is to build community spirit by providing community grant funds for public art, sport activities/programs, festivals and events, sports hosting, capital projects and new initiatives aligned with the City's strategic goals.

Funding for the Spirit of Coquitlam Grant Program is derived from the Casino Host Agreement revenue. Since 2002, the City of Coquitlam has awarded $8.83 million to over 200 different organizations through the Spirit of Coquitlam Grant Program.

Fall 2019 Intake

The ​​Fall 2019 Spirit of Coquitlam Grant is now open.

Applications may be submitted by email to communitygrant@coquitlam.ca between Sept. 1 and Sept. 30 at 4 p.m.​

Please see the Grant Application Support Guides below for more details about the Spirit of Coquitlam Grant.

  • NEW!  Organizations will be required to show that they have applied for a Community Gaming Grant - Province of BC, if eligible;
  • NEW!  Organizations that are eligible for Provincial Playground Equipment Program Funding must show that they have applied for a playground equipment grant to cover the items requested, prior to being considered for a Spirit Grant;
  • NEW!  Organizations may only receive funding once per calendar year;
  • NEW!  Similar projects/capital items can only be funded once every 3 years;
  • NEW!  Organizations ​that are contributing a minimum of 10% of their project cost in cash will be given priority.

Grant Application Criteria

  • Are you a not-for-profit organization that has been in existence for a minimum of 1 year? 
    For example: 
    • Arts & Culture Organization
    • Community Services Organization
    • Environmental/Parks Organization
    • Neighbourhood Association  
    • Service Club Organization
    • Sports Organization
    • Other (please contact Grant Coordinator at 604-927-3547 OR 604-927-3556 if you have questions about your organization's eligibility).
  • Will the proposed project, event or activity occur within Coquitlam?
  • Will the proposed project, event or activity be sustainable past the support of the grant funding?
  • Will the request be used to support, promote or enhance any one of the City of Coquitlam Strategic Goals?

  • Is your organization in good financial standing with the City?
  • Is your organization planning an event or festival? You are encouraged to apply for grant funding in the year prior to your event.

If you have answered 'yes' to the above questions, you are eligible to apply for a Spirit of Coquitlam Grant.
