Film Sector

Home-based Business

Small business is an essential component of Coquitlam’s economy, reflecting a similar composition as BC’s statistics of 98% of our business base being in the small business category.

This sector of BC's economy is the third largest employment generator and includes traditional industries for processing the province’s abundant natural resources and has grown to include equipment and parts, plastics, health care products, computers and electronics and food-processing manufacturing. A large portion of Coquitlam's labour force is employed in manufacturing firms that are engaged in a variety of industries that export products to worldwide destinations such as Europe, Asia, the United States and Mexico.

Professional Services

Professional services is the largest employment generator in BC accounting for 888,600 jobs. A significant portion of Coquitlam's labour force is employed in professional service firms that are engaged in a variety of industries such as finance, real estate, education, legal, accounting, engineering, healthcare, etc.

Retail / Wholesale

The retail/wholesale sector is the largest employer in BC, accounting for 15% of jobs in 2013 and generating 10% of the total GDP. In Coquitlam, the sector has remained strong as a result of population and investment growth with busnesses serving both the community and surrounding region.

The technology sector in BC has become one of the province’s largest sectors accounting for 7.6% of the BC economy.  Coquitlam’s technology sector has diversified over the past decade to include a variety of businesses in the ICT, digital media and wireless, health and life sciences and clean-tech subsectors.
