A subdivision of land can:

  • create two or more lots out of one lot,
  • adjust an existing property (lot) line, or
  • consolidate two or more lots into one.

The review and consideration of proposed subdivisions in the City of Coquitlam is the responsibility of the City’s Approving Officer and is governed by the Subdivision and Development Servicing Bylaw and the Zoning Bylaw. These Bylaws set out subdivision requirements such as minimum lot dimensions, lot area and lot width and development servicing requirements, such as sidewalk, street lighting, and sewer and water connections.

For more information about Subdivision requirements please refer to the following:

Subdivision and Development Servicing Bylaw

An Owner must install Works and Services directly attributable to a Subdivision or Building Permit, unless exempted under this or another bylaw, on that portion of a Highway immediately adjacent to the site being subdivided or developed, up to the centre line of the Highway.

Works and Services must be provided, designed, located and constructed in accordance with this Bylaw and the Schedules to the Bylaw.
