Move for Health Day, May 10, is an international event created by the World Health Organization to promote physical activity. Choose any type of physical activity that you enjoy, such as recreational activities, walking, stretching, dancing, etc. Being physically active can improve your brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, improve your ability to do everyday activities and can improve mental health.
Mother’s Day is coming up on Sunday, May 12. It is a special day to honour our mothers and celebrate the special bond with your Mum. Happy Mother’s Day also to Grandma, Step Mum, Aunt, Sister, Cousin, Friend and anyone who takes on a mother like role through friendship, support, nurture, care and love.

WHAT'S HAPPENING AT DOGWOOD
Join us for drawing classes with spring themes and some outdoor classes starting the week of May 19. Drawing programs promote artistic knowledge and skill development by providing instruction and opportunities to practice artistic techniques. They also promote creative self expression by providing opportunities for choice, expression and creativity. Drawing Beginner, Charcoal and Soft Pastels, Coloured Pencils Spring Florals and Plein Air Drawing in the Rose Garden.
Join us for a fun night of dinner, dancing and great music from the Beauty Shop Dolls on Friday, June 7 at Dogwood Pavilion at our next Social Evening. Enjoy music from across the decades, 20’s with Great Gatsby, the 40’s swing era and some sock hop favourites from the 50’s and 60’s. Menu: Chicken Florentine with Rice, Roasted Vegetables, Salad, Strawberry Shortcake, Coffee/Tea.
WHAT'S HAPPENING AT GLEN PINE
The month of May brings us May flowers with several new classes focusing on drawing nature, flowers and plants, Colour Theory with Watercolours, Inkwash Painting and painting with bold, bright colours. These art opportunities will lift your spirits to match the warmer weather and sunny skies.
The second set of Spring classes begins in May and we encourage you to not wait to register. On the schedule are some very exciting dance, music, cooking and information sessions. Spring is always a wonderful time to try something new.
Registration deadline for the Mother's Day Tea is this Sunday May 5.There are a few more spots left for the upcoming Glen Pine Live with The Driftsmen on May 24. The Spring Clean-Up Sale in Spirit Square on May 26 is also looking to be a good event to shop for items that to be re-used, recycled and useful again in new homes.

PAVILION MOVIES
Movies are a wonderful way to spend an afternoon and meet others who enjoy the silver screen. For $2 you can transport yourself into another world of adventure, comedy, drama, mystery and more. If you have ideas on movie titles you would like to view, please let us know. We are looking for a Film and Movie Moderator to facilitate our weekly movie programs. If you are a film buff who enjoys a wide array of films and movies and would enjoy leading a brief discussion about the movie afterwards, we would love to hear from you. Discussion questions will be provided.

If you have not yet submitted your 2023 income tax return, we have some May/June appointments available with Canada Revenue Agency trained volunteers at Dogwood and Glen Pine. The eligibility guidelines remain the same as there will be a Questionnaire to be completed at time of registration to confirm eligibility.

Art Group
This group draws and paints in several mediums and enjoys the challenge of doing portraits. If you would like to sit for a portrait by our group, please come in to arrange for a convenient date. We meet every Wednesday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Studio.
At Dogwood Pavilion, Activity Groups are managed by the Dogwood Senior Society.

With registration ongoing for Spring 2024 programming, now is a great time to apply for Coquitlam’s Financial Assistance for Recreation program.
