Coquitlam Fire/Rescue, in partnership with School District No. 43, is once again offering an exciting opportunity for students to trial a career as a firefighter through the Junior Firefighter Program.
COQUITLAM, BC, November 4, 2024 – Coquitlam Fire/Rescue, in partnership with School District No. 43, is once again offering an exciting opportunity for students to trial a career as a firefighter through the Junior Firefighter Program.
70 youth have graduated from the program since its launch in 2019, and the application process is now open for eager and determined students in grades 11 and 12 to participate in the class of 2025.
Applying to the Program
To be accepted into the Junior Firefighter Program, applicants will complete an in-depth application form, in addition to a personal interview and fitness test to ensure they meet academic and physical requirements.
Applications are being accepted now until Friday, December 6, 2024.
Program Goals and Highlights
The goals of the program are to attract a diversity of students, including individuals with a general interest in firefighting as a career opportunity, and provide them unique and rewarding hands-on training experiences.
The Junior Firefighter Program is a condensed version of the eight-week firefighter basic training program and includes aerial ladder experience, basic first aid as well as CPR / AED (defibrillator), hose and nozzle drills, high angle equipment and rappelling, auto extrication exercises, fire ground drills, fire extinguisher training, and a public service component.
