Give Your Broken Items a New Life at Coquitlam’s Repair Café

Repair Cafe - News Flash Image Skilled volunteers will be on hand at Coquitlam’s Repair Café on January 25 to fix everything from small appliances and bicycles to clothing and furniture—for free.

COQUITLAM, B.C., January 15, 2025 - Skilled volunteers will be on hand at Coquitlam’s Repair Café on January 25 to fix everything from small appliances and bicycles to clothing and furniture—for free.

Coquitlam residents can keep items out of the landfill by bringing them to the City’s sixth Repair Café on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Mike Butler Room at Dogwood Pavilion.

Repair Cafés Powered by Volunteers

Repair Cafés are volunteer-driven events that not only fix broken items but also provide a unique, hands-on learning experience for participants. These events build connections within the community and reduce waste—a win-win for Coquitlam residents. For full event details, visit coquitlam.ca/RepairCafe.

Coquitlam is looking for handy community members with a passion for sharing skills and reducing waste to join its group of 42 Repair Café volunteers. Whether you’re experienced with sewing, electrical repairs, or bike maintenance, your talents can help keep items out of the landfill while building a more sustainable community. To fill out the volunteer form, visit coquitlam.ca/RepairCafe.

 Reduce Waste, Support Sustainability

Coquitlam residents can support the circular economy, which promotes designing products for longevity, repair, and reuse to eliminate waste, by choosing repairable items and participating in programs like the Repair Café. This sustainable approach to consumption helps address climate change by reducing emissions tied to product manufacturing, use, and disposal. For more information on Coquitlam’s climate action efforts, visit coquitlam.ca/ClimateAction.

Coquitlam offers a range of tools for residents to reduce waste and embrace sustainable practices.

  • Waste Wizard Tool: Unsure how to dispose of something? Use the Waste Wizard to find donation or recycling options at coquitlam.ca/WasteWizard.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum), meaning “Red Fish Up the River.” The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee) and other Coast Salish Peoples.
