COQUITLAM, B.C., April 15, 2025 – Mundy Park Pool is opening on June 1, with a fresh new look and exciting upgrades. The expanded outdoor pool, set at the forest’s edge, is ready to welcome the community back for a summer of fun and connection.
The revitalization of Mundy Park Pool brings a modern, accessible, and sustainable aquatic space to Coquitlam’s growing community. Replacing the original pool, which served residents for over 50 years, the upgraded facility offers new features and opportunities for recreation the whole community can enjoy.
Residents are invited to jump in first and get a sneak peek at this fantastic new facility by attending one of several pre-registered early access swims in May. Dates will be viewable online on April 25. For more details, or to sign up when pre-registrations open on April 29, visit coquitlam.ca/registration and search “MPP Early Access Swim”.
Mundy Park Pool will be a lively community hub for leisure swims, swimming lessons and swim meets. It will also serve as a training centre for the Coquitlam Sharks Swim Club, who will dive in when they gain access on May 1.
A Community Win: Expanding Accessibility and Recreation
This revitalization project ensures Mundy Park Pool remains a valued community asset for decades to come. The upgraded facility offers a range of new features, including a leisure pool with a gradual beach entry, a splash area, a water climbing wall, interactive water features, a lazy river, and warming pool. Expanded deck space, a lawn area with picnic tables and benches, and a concession create an inviting setting for both active recreation and relaxation.
The new facility is poised to become a central hub for summer fun in Coquitlam, and is expecting to host more than 16,000 drop-in visits and 2,250 participants in swimming lessons and certification courses each season.
Designed for Community Accessibility
The upgraded pool now features an accessible ramp entry to the lap pool and dive tank, universal change rooms with gendered and non-gendered options, and an accessible admissions area.
A new drop-off and pick-up zone improves access, while a year-round universal washroom, accessible from Mundy Park, extends accessibility beyond the pool.
Built for Sustainability
The upgrades to Mundy Park Pool include a range of features to help reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and boost energy efficiency.
Sustainability initiatives include:
- Air Source Heat Pumps to provide efficient pool and building heating, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
- Pool covers to minimize heat loss during non-operational hours, reducing overall energy use.
- LED Lighting throughout the facility reduces energy consumption.
- EV Charging Stations and Bicycle Racks to encourage sustainable transportation options.
An Investment in Coquitlam’s Future
In August 2021, the federal and provincial governments announced grant funding toward Spani Pool through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program’s (ICIP) Community, Culture, and Recreation Infrastructure Stream. Under the program, the Government of Canada is investing over $2.42 million, with the Province of British Columbia contributing over $2.01 million.
A Pool at the Heart of Coquitlam’s Largest Urban Forest
Nestled within Mundy Park, Coquitlam’s largest urban forest, the pool is a community destination for outdoor recreation. With expanded amenities, enhanced accessibility, and a strong focus on sustainability, the facility reflects Coquitlam’s commitment to offering modern, inclusive spaces for residents to enjoy. It is an investment in the community’s well-being and the environment, providing a lasting amenity for generations to come.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum), meaning “Red Fish Up the River.” The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee) and other Coast Salish Peoples.
