COQUITLAM, B.C., April 30, 2026 – A once-in-a-generation soccer moment is coming close to home, and in Coquitlam, residents have the chance to bring it to their street.

As part of the City’s Summer of Soccer celebrations, Coquitlam is introducing a special soccer-themed edition of its Block Party Program, giving residents new ways to turn neighborhood gatherings into lively, soccer-inspired celebrations.

This special edition builds on the City’s annual Block Party Program, which offers residents a $150 grant to support neighbourhood gatherings across Coquitlam.

Starting May 1, residents can apply for one of two limited soccer-themed packages to host a soccer-themed block party between June 11 and July 19:

  • World Cup Soccer Watch Party Package (20 available): Host your own neighbourhood viewing experience with a City-provided screen
  • World Cup Soccer Celebration Package (20 available): Receive a $500 grant to support a soccer-themed community event.

All approved applicants will also receive soccer-themed play-kits designed to spark casual, family friendly fun at their event.

Quantities are limited and demand is expected to be high. Availability will vary by event date, with a limited number of packages offered for each game day. Applications are free and must be submitted at least two business weeks in advance. Block parties can be hosted on residential Coquitlam streets or on private indoor or outdoor property.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
