COQUITLAM, B.C., May 4 – Coquitlam’s Mundy Park Pool is making a splash before the season even begins, earning two major provincial awards that recognize excellence in recreation facilities and the role they play in building vibrant, connected communities.
The outdoor pool has received the B.C. Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA) Facility Excellence Award for Projects over $6 million, recognizing outstanding design that reflects community needs while incorporating accessibility, innovation and environmentally responsible elements.
The newly built community amenity has also earned the 2026 Bill Woycik Outstanding Facility Award from the Recreation Facilities Association of BC (RFABC), which recognizes exceptional recreation facilities that address a clear community need while demonstrating innovation, operational efficiency and overall impact.
Built for Community, Designed for Experience
Located in the heart of Mundy Park, Mundy Park Pool is a renewed and expanded outdoor aquatics facility that replaces the former Spani Pool, which served the community for more than 50 years. The revitalized space significantly increases capacity while supporting everything from competitive swimming to lessons and casual, family-friendly use.
The existing lap pool and dive tank were retained and upgraded, featuring eight 25-metre lanes, improved accessibility with a new ramp, and enhanced amenities such as an updated dive stand, climbing wall and inflatable obstacle course. Other features include:
- A leisure pool with beach entry, splash features, lazy river and shallow swim lanes
- Expanded deck and lawn areas for seating, spectating and relaxation
- Fully accessible universal change rooms, washrooms and poolside amenities
- Year-round universal washroom accessible from Mundy Park
- A multipurpose room for community programming, training and meetings
Designed to blend into its natural surroundings, the pool complements Mundy Park’s extensive trail network and green space, creating a destination where residents can swim, play and connect, all in one place.
Opening May 30 for the 2026 Season
The (now) award-winning Mundy Park Pool opens for the season on May 30. Residents are invited to experience the facility firsthand and enjoy everything it has to offer throughout the spring and summer months. Find hours of operation at coquitlam.ca/MundyParkPool.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
