City News Posted on November 05, 2026

COQUITLAM, B.C., November 4, 2026 – The City of Coquitlam is marking International GIS Day on November 18 by launching an updated QtheMap tool - and you’re invited to join at City Hall to learn more.

Geographic Information System (GIS) technology helps the City map out the community, plan infrastructure and understand how places and services connect. By bringing together data and location information, GIS helps the City make informed decisions, improve services and build a more sustainable and resilient community.

Everyone is welcome to drop in and see the many ways we bring geospatial data to life. The event is suitable for students aged 10 and over, and all community members—you do not have to be a science enthusiast to appreciate the interesting community information that is accessible and available on the City’s updated QtheMap.

  • Date: Wednesday, November 18
  • Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Location: Coquitlam City Hall, 3000 Guildford Way, Council Chambers

Attendees will be able to meet with City GIS staff, participate in an interactive scavenger hunt, locate their residence, see historical comparisons of neighbourhoods, and more.

More information and event details are available at coquitlam.ca/GISDay.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
