Heritage Planning

Heritage Management Strategy

The City of Coquitlam is developing an overarching and comprehensive framework to guide the assessment and preservation of heritage resources, both built and natural. The Strategy will help to refine the vision for heritage conservation in the City and identify the tools available to realize that vision. Please see our Heritage Management Strategy page for more information.

Preserving Coquitlam’s Heritage

Coquitlam enjoys a rich heritage, evident in many features throughout the City. The notion of heritage extends beyond individual buildings, affecting overall streetscapes and neighbourhoods. Maintaining and caring for this heritage brings many benefits, such as:

  • Enhancing the community’s distinct identity and pride through the preservation of the roots of its ancestors
  • Providing a sense of continuity between the past, present and future
  • Demonstrating a commitment to the general principle of sustainability

Accordingly, it is the objective of the City to guide the retention and enhancement of Coquitlam’s distinct and valued heritage (PDF) for the enlightened enjoyment of future generations.
