AccessAbility Resource Fair May 25
Coquitlam is hosting its third AccessAbility Resource Fair this year—a free event for people to learn, connect and explore local supports.
- Sunday, May 25
- 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.
- Pinetree Community Centre (1260 Pinetree Way)
Local organizations will be sharing information about accessible programs and services available in Coquitlam. The event includes a variety of booths, activities and opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get involved:
- Join a Self-regulation and Interoception Workshop for Parents and Caregivers from 1:30 – 3 p.m. (course ID 194572), with free supervised sensory-friendly activities for children (course ID 195416)
- Watch Unified Sports play a friendly basketball game against the Coquitlam Fire Department from 1:45 – 2:45 p.m.
- Give Chair Fit a try from 3 – 3:30 p.m., followed by Floor Curling from 3:45 – 4:15 p.m.
- Take part in a Service Canada seminar from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
- Relax in one of the low-sensory spaces.
- Learn about Coquitlam’s Accessibility and Inclusion initiatives and the Universal Access-Ability Advisory Committee.
The event is fragrance-free and close to transit. Pinetree Community Centre has accessible door openers, parking stalls, washrooms and an elevator. Curb letdowns from the sidewalk to the parking lot and a drop-off loop allow for easy access to the front door. Visit coquitlam.ca/AAW for more information.
Join the Fun at AccessAbility Week Activities
From May 25 to 31, Coquitlam is hosting a variety of programs and events in support of AccessAbility Week. Everyone is welcome to join in, with programs designed to support inclusion, connection and movement. Try out accessible sports, take part in an adapted fitness program, drop-in for an open gym time or join a kids’ activity. Highlights include:
- A free Carpet Bowling program for adults at Dogwood Pavilion (1655 Winslow Avenue) on Tuesday, May 27 from 1:45 – 4:45 p.m.
- A free Every Body open gym time for adults with disabilities at Maillardville Community Centre (1200 Cartier Avenue) on Thursday, May 29 from 1:45 – 3:15 p.m.
- A free Gentle Aqua Fit drop-in for adults at City Centre Aquatic Complex on Friday, May 30 from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m.
- An all ages, $2 sensory-friendly drop-in skate at Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex on Saturday, May 31 from 4:30 – 6 p.m.

Promoting Recreation Access
Coquitlam strives to provide welcoming and inclusive recreation opportunities, with programs and resources designed to reduce barriers to participation:
- Financial Assistance for Recreation program, providing each eligible family member 50 free drop-in visits plus a $225 credit to use for admissions, passes, programs, lessons, exam fees, supplies, rentals and more
- Free and low-cost swim times and recreation programs, including the School’s Out Pass ($25, including tax)
- Free admission for caregivers providing one-on-one support to patrons
- Free menstrual products at City facilities
- Recreation inclusion programs providing extra supports for program registrants
- Virtual facility tours for City Centre Aquatic Complex and Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex
- A Recreation Accessibility Resource Guide summarizing the different equipment, supports, programs and services available with Coquitlam recreation
