COQUITLAM, B.C. April 13, 2026 – Give your gently used items a second life while make more space in your home with the spring edition of Coquitlam’s City-Wide Garage Sale and Giveaway Event!

This year, the garage sale and giveaway takes place on Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration opens Monday, April 13 at coquitlam.ca/GarageSale.

Since launching in 2014, more than 1,840 households have taken part, keeping thousands of items in circulation and out of the landfill. New and returning participants can sell or give away gently used household items so others can enjoy them.

It’s also a fun way to connect with your community and find new-to-you treasures as you explore the sale spread out in neighbourhoods across the city.

Not Your Average Garage Sale

The City-Wide Garage Sale and Giveaway Event supports the City’s waste-reduction goals by helping extend the life of everyday items and reducing what ends up in the landfill. It aligns with key priorities in the Environmental Sustainability Plan to:

  • Minimize waste generation
  • Maximize reuse, recycling and material recovery
  • Ensure opportunities exist to recycle or repurpose unwanted items to discourage illegal dumping and littering

When you sign up, your address is added to the City’s interactive map and promoted through the City’s website and social media channels to help more people find your sale as they plan their routes.

Register Online to Get Started

Registration opens Monday, April 13 and closes at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13.

The event is open to single-family and duplex homes, as well as multi-family buildings with permission from the property owner, manager or strata. Online registration and details are available at coquitlam.ca/GarageSale

Participants can choose to take part on one or both days and select the types of items they’ll be selling or giving away, such as books, clothing, toys, electronics, home décor, furniture, tools or sports gear.

No Yard? No Problem! Take Part in the Spring Swap and Sale

Don’t have space for a garage sale? Apartment and condo residents can still join in the fun. On Saturday, May 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the City is hosting a Spring Clean-Up Sale in the Great Room at Glen Pine.

This indoor market-style event offers a great way to declutter, connect with others and keep good stuff out of the landfill. Entry is free for shoppers.

Reserve your spot by registering at coquitlam.ca/Registration using Course ID 218116. Tables are $34.65 each. The registration deadline is Wednesday, May 13 at 9:30 a.m.

Coquitlam’s Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

Taking action to address environmental and climate sustainability is one of Coquitlam's key strategic priorities. This is reflected in the City's newly approved 2026 Climate Action Plan and 2022 Environmental Sustainability Plan, which outline key goals and objectives in supporting the long-term resiliency and sustainability of our community.

The City-Wide Garage Sale and Giveaway Event supports the Environmental Sustainability Plan's goals around waste management by encouraging citizens to engage in a circular economy through recycling, repairing, reusing, repurposing, or refurbishing products and materials, where possible.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
