[ARCHIVED] Help Plant New Pollinator Gardens at Mundy Park

Planting

COQUITLAM, B.C., March 10, 2021 – Coquitlam green thumbs and families can dig in the dirt, help pollinators and beautify Mundy Park at a fun outdoor activity during spring break.

Individuals and members of the same household (up to six) can now register for timeslots from March 23 to 25 at www.coquitlam.ca/parkspark to help plant three new pollinator-friendly gardens at Mundy Park near Hillcrest Street.

The safe, family-friendly and physically-distanced activity will be led by the City’s Park Spark team, which provides opportunities to help improve and connect to Coquitlam’s parks. Limited spaces are available; early registration is recommended for the most choice.

A Safe, Fun Activity

With guidance from the Park Spark team, participants will help plant the new garden beds near Mundy Park’s fieldhouse and new playground with a variety of shrubs and plants, including specimens that attract local pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

While this is an outdoor activity, masks are recommended. COVID protocols will include hand washing, sanitizing, registered attendance to prevent crowds, and work areas that are spaced apart.

Other details:

  • While the registered timeslots are for one hour, participants may depart whenever they wish.
  • The activity will take place rain or shine. Participants should dress for the weather.
  • Gloves and trowels (sanitized) will be available for use, but participants are welcome to bring their own if they prefer.

For more information about the activity or Park Spark, contact parkspark@coquitlam.ca.
