Blue Mountain is among the City’s original parks and continues to be a vibrant community space.

Trails

Within this beautiful urban forest setting, a network of paths lead the visitor under a canopy of tall Douglas Fir, Red Cedar, North Red Oak, and even Redwood trees.

Sports / Recreation

A variety of sport and recreation amenities, including a grass playing field, ball diamond and three tennis courts, invite both casual and organized play at the park. On warm summer days, the wading pool and spray park are popular meeting places for families.

History

To celebrate spring in the 1940s and 50s, the local community organized a May Day event each year with races, a May pole, and a parade that made its way from Municipal Hall on Brunette Avenue to Blue Mountain Park. An early resident recalled the cars chugging up the unpaved Blue Mountain Road, and often boiling over, before they reached the celebration. 

In the 1930s the local volunteer ‘booster club’ built a small wading pool at Blue Mountain. But it was not until 1958 that Coquitlam’s first public recreation facility, an outdoor pool was constructed in the park. With the opening of the pool, the District sponsored a program to ensure all grade 6 students would have swim lessons.
