Metro Vancouver is undertaking projects around the region to maintain and upgrade water, wastewater and solid waste infrastructure. These projects help to protect public health and the environment, and meet the needs of our growing region.
The following Metro Vancouver projects are taking place across Coquitlam.
Coquitlam Water Main Project
Metro Vancouver is constructing a new water main in Coquitlam to meet the growing demand for drinking water in the region. The Coquitlam Water Main is approximately 12 kilometres long, and varies between 2.2 and 3.5 metres in diameter. It will be constructed between the north end of Pipeline Road and Mariner Way at Riverview Crescent.
Construction of the Coquitlam Water Main is divided into four sections:
- Robson to Guildford: 2023 to 2026
- Cape Horn: 2026 to 2032
- Pipeline Road North: 2026 to 2032
- City Centre Tunnel: 2027 to 2034
Robson to Guildford Section
This section is 1.4 kilometres long, 3.2 metres in diameter, and runs along Pipeline Road between Robson Drive and Guildford Way. Construction started in fall 2023 and is estimated to be completed in fall 2026. Once all sections of the Coquitlam Water Main are constructed, Metro Vancouver will connect the new water main to the existing drinking water system.

Once Coquitlam's Pipeline Road Upgrade Project (David Avenue to Guildford Way) is completed, the City will lead the restoration phase, which includes tree planting along this section.
Cape Horn Section
The Cape Horn section of the Coquitlam Water Main is approximately four kilometres long, 2.2 metres in diameter, and runs from Westwood Street and Dewdney Trunk Road to Hickey Drive and Mariner Way.
Dewdney Trunk Road Water Main
The Dewdney Trunk Road water main is approximately 1.6 kilometres long, 0.9 metres in diameter, and runs along Dewdney Trunk Road between Lougheed Highway and Pier Drive. It will replace an existing main built in 1950, which has reached the end of its service life. Pre-construction activities started in early December 2025, with mobilization and construction activities continuing to early 2027. For more information, visit Metro Vancouver's project webpage.

Stoney Creek Sewer
The Stoney Creek sewer is a large pipe that moves wastewater collected from communities in Burnaby, Coquitlam and Port Moody to the Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plant in Delta for treatment.
Metro Vancouver is constructing a new sewer pipe in Coquitlam and Burnaby to ensure the continued protection of public health and the environment. When complete, the new pipe (approximately three kilometers long) will improve sewer service in the area by minimizing system backups and spills, supporting regional growth and protecting Stoney Creek. The project will be completed in two sections.
The Coquitlam section of the Stoney Creek Sewer Upgrade extends from Chapman Avenue to Jefferson Avenue in Coquitlam. Construction of this section is expected to start early 2026 and will take approximately one year to complete. Learn more about the project at the Stoney Creek Sewer Upgrade – Coquitlam Section project webpage.
