Councillor Craig Hodge

  • Craig Hodge moved to Coquitlam as a young child, and attended Hillcrest Elementary, Charles Best Junior High and Centennial Secondary Schools.
  • He and his wife, Darla Furlani, have raised their three boys Robbie, and twins Brandon and Dawson in Northeast Coquitlam.
  • Craig began his career as a photojournalist in 1974 in Coquitlam at the Columbian Daily Newspaper and, when it went out of business in 1984, he helped to start The Tri-City News, where he worked until his retirement in June 2011.
  • In his 36-year career, Craig’s achievements were recognized with 42 international, national, and provincial journalism awards.
  • For three decades, Craig has been an active volunteer and leader in this community.
  • In the community, Craig has:
    • helped research and author Coquitlam’s first history book “Coquitlam 100 Years”
    • participated on the BC Summer Games committee, in 1991
    • worked on the first Riverview Hospital Task Force as a provincial appointee, in 1995
    • served as president of the Tri-Cities’ Chamber of Commerce
    • elected three times to the B.C. Chamber of Commerce board serving a total of six years
    • member of the city’s economic development, and traffic and safety advisory committees 
    • chair of the city’s traffic calming committee
    • served as a board member of the Coquitlam Foundation
    • served as president of the Coquitlam Heritage Society
    • coached with Metro-Ford Soccer Club and Tri-City ball hockey Association
  • Craig runs a Scout troop on Burke Mountain.
  • Craig was elected to Coquitlam City Council in 2011 and serves as:
    • Chair of  Coquitlam’s Community Safety Advisory Committee
    • Director on Metro Vancouver Board of Directors
    • Vice Chair of Metro Vancouver Zero Waste Committee 
    • Chair of National Zero Waste Council of Canada
    • Member of Metro Vancouver Regional Parks Committee
    • Member of Metro Vancouver Regional Planning Committee
    • Member of Metro Vancouver Water Committee
    • Member of Union of British Columbia Municipalities Executive
    • Chair of Union of B.C. Municipalities Community Safety Committee
    • Co-Chair of British Columbia’s Local Government RCMP Contract Management Committee
    • Co-Chair of Local Government Roundtable on Modernizing the BC Police Act
